OAT LOVE //

Today I spent time peeling oat seeds by hand.

First of all there are the seeds. Mostly they all look the same, dirty yellow-ish, despite there being lots of different oat varieties.

Sometimes you get the odd brow or balck variety, and that's as exciting as it gets.

Then I peel them and count them (100 seeds into a little white paper bag). The remains, the husk, looks like this::

These are very special. I will talk about them some other time.

The peeled sees are heary and fluffy, as if they were filled with milk. I wish the Mediterrenean diet had exploited oats more. In that case we would have delicious recipies and could stop pretending porrige is good.

I will soon respond to this groundless sweeping comment in more detail. Watch out.
